After making my first presentation as an author at a local breakfast club today, I was inspired to go to the park for an early morning walk. The first person I run into was a beautiful petite woman of about 65 years of age walking her dog Rocky. As we discussed the beautiful morning, enjoying the calm and no wind, we introduced ourselves. When I told her I was an author and blogger, she had this surprised look on her face and said "It is your lucky day. I am the great niece of James Joyce, a best-selling author." "Really, I have not heard of him," I said. "Well he is really hard to read because his story is so deep and raw, but he is my uncle and is a best-selling author." As we shook hands and exchanged words, this lovely soul asked about my book. I told her it is a tale of searching a lifetime for peace and joy, instead finding deceit, chaos and pain. Finally breaking the chains, I was able to honor myself and create the life that I deserve. She said it sounded marvelous and fascinating, and then continued to tell me about her life, which is also quite a story.
This woman has been married 4 times, has 3 children and several grandchildren. She was a successful dental hygienist and was financially set up to retire at the age of 40. She had been through alcohol and drug abuse from the men she married and sent them on their way. At the time of meeting her last husband, she was engaged to another man, a dentist. One night she was at a party that her friend was hosting. She looked across the room and felt magnetized to the eyes of one man, as every cell in her being knew he was the one. As she was a lady that did not believe in cheating on your mate in any way, she did not pursue this man at that party. However, he consumed her every thought. One night she asked her fiance if he was prepared to be married to her for the rest of his life. He pondered this for a moment and said NO! With that answer, she felt some relief and ended her engagement.
The next day she went to her friends house, who was the only person she knew that had a connection to this mysterious man that would not leave her mind. With one look at her, the friend poured her a scotch on the rocks. Even though this lady did not normally drink, she did that day. "You need to call him," said the friend. "And say what? I did not get to meet him so I cannot even talk about that. I can't just call him up out of the blue. What would I say?" After 3 drinks, a few games of pool and a nice conversation with her friend, she called him. She dialed the phone, waited for him to answer, and then said one word. "Hi." With that, this man on the other end gasped, paused and said "Where are you? I am coming to get you." This lady told him where she was and he was there as quickly as his vehicle could drive. Once there, they looked at each other and smiled as he picked her up and carried her to his vehicle. They have been happily married now for 30 years.
What a wonderful story! This man is also such a caring and loving person that he does not hesitate to help her daughter buy a house, or help pay for her grandson's vehicle to be repaired. When she told her mother about her new husband, the mother was less than happy. She told her daughter, a new bride, that he would never amount to much as he was just a train jockey. Well, this man is now one of the top men working for the rail station and makes a darn good living! They have traveled the world and really enjoyed their life. Though the choices this lady made at first to marry the men she did, she always respected herself and was true to who she was. She put herself first and did not allow anyone to treat her in any way that was less then she felt she deserved! She said that she had always known she would find her true love, her soul mate, she just had to live her life and be happy until he showed up. She proudly told me she has no regrets. She has lived a wonderful life and is happy for everything that she has been through, as every situation has helped her to built character and make her who she is today.
What a wonderful and inspirational story! What a pleasure it was to meet this lady today. This is exactly what I talk about in my blogs, as well as what I wrote about in my book Designed To Be Uniquely Me (pen name of Anisa Blake). The person we need to listen to as adults is ourselves. We do not need to settle for second best. We do not need to compromise our happiness or safety to be with someone. We need to love and care for ourselves first and foremost. We need to make our decisions based upon what we want in our lives and where we want to go. We need to listen to our inner urges as that is our higher self leading us to what we need and want. Had I chosen with my head to just come home after my meeting this morning, I would not have had this chance encounter of a writer's niece. I would not have shared a beautiful story with her. Follow your heart more and your cynical programmed brain less. See where it takes you. Ask yourself questions you want answers to and then be quiet enough to hear the answers. Since I started living my life this way, and trusting it will all work out, my life is 100% different than 2 years ago. Know what you want and don't let anyone tell you it is not possible. From where I was to where I am now, and in such a short time, I am telling you that anything and everything is possible.
